Here's my story ...

Brilliant Autobiographies was set up in Plymouth, Devon, by former BBC journalist, Laura Joint (that's me). I have been a journalist and writer since 1982, starting off as a reporter with a freelance agency before becoming a news and sports correspondent with the South West's daily newspaper, the Western Morning News. I worked at the WMN from 1989 to 1997.

In 1990, my book, Torquay United: The First Seventy Years was published - the first book ever to be written about the history of Torquay United Football Club. I have now updated this with a modern twist, presenting it in a Brilliant Memory Map, launched in February 2015. See more on the History of Torquay United FC page on my Laura Joint website.

I worked for the BBC from 1997 to 2011, initially as a radio journalist for BBC Radio Devon and then, from 2001 to 2011, as a features writer for the BBC Devon website. During my time there, the BBC Devon website team was behind the creation of the Devon flag.

Professional and friendly

If you're asking someone to write your life story, you need to be able to trust them. You also need someone who is professional and an accomplished writer who can bring out YOUR voice in the story.

Brilliant Autobiographies is not a franchise. My goal is to help people to put their life story and memories into print in a beautiful book or Memory Map - for their own enjoyment and for the benefit of their family and friends. I am highly committed by nature and I throw everything I have at making sure my customers receive 100% commitment from me. Visit my testimonials page to see what people say.

As well as life stories, I also write media releases for a number of PR clients and continue to provide features for publications, including the Western Morning News and the Plymouth Magazine. I also write a blog on my Laura Joint website (linked from the logo at the foot of the page) about the things I love to write about - the website has much more about my work and a gallery of some of my favourite photos.

On a personal level, my interests include photography, food & drink, travel, the coast, nature, wildlife, music, theatre, literature, history and sport - especially cricket.

One of my loves is the sea and my concern for the marine environment led me to publish Tuamor the Turtle, a children's book highlighting the peril of ocean plastics. It's written and illustrated by two good friends of mine, Jo Earlam and Mark Hannon.
